Description

App for: :iconordo-fabula:

Name:
Ashen Velvet
Title: The Velveteen Rabbit
Fairy Tale: The Velveteen Rabbit
Origin: Fabula
Home: Pandelion
Age: 18 (permanently)
Gender: Make
Height: 5'6 (1.70m )
Weight:  115lbs (52.3 kg)
Species: Gijinka (Failed spell)
Team: ---
Occupation: Toy Maker
Skills:
♦ Dexterous -  Ashen is highly skilled at the art of craft. This comes useful for a toy maker and he often makes beautiful creations with lots of care and detail to them.
♦ Can take the heat - (Refer to 'Background' for details) Due to his condition, he is resistant (but not completely immune to) extreme weather conditions.
♦ Good ear - Due to his rabbit ears, Ashen is very good at hearing things around him and a certain distance away from him. This makes it hard to truly sneak up on him, as he can hear footsteps easily.
Weaknesses:
♦ Ash Skin - (Refer to 'Background' for details) His skin is extremely sensitive to the touch. Even a normal grip on his wrist can cause Ashen pain.
♦ Brittle - Ashen is not good at all at taking any sorts of damage. His bones break easier than a normal human's.
♦ Paranoid/Loner - Ashen is slow to trust and quick to fear. He always assumes the worst of people first and that doesn't earn him many friends or allies to fall back on when in trouble. He seems to prefer his existence alone, however, and doesn't actively seek companionship.
Abilities:
♦ Fire Breath. (Refer to 'Background' for details) - Is able to breathe fire at will. The amount of fire is usually small unless he feels threatened/is scared, then it can become large, but also hard to control.
♦ Nimble - Ashen is light on his feet and is able to manoeuvre swiftly, making it easier for him to flee a situation if needed.
Weapon:
♦ Sickle - Ashen owns a sickle that he usually keeps on his left side. It is nothing fancy, but is nothing if not sharp, as Ashen tends to sharpen it whenever he has free time. Although the boy prefers not to use it, he knows that going completely without a weapon is foolish. His fire is usually his main go-to, but when in a pinch and fire's not an option, he'll go for his sickle. It can slice through flesh like butter, but is a close range-only weapon, so unless Ashen' life is in danger and he is completely cornered, he won't use it.
Seraph: ---
Book: ---
Likes:
♥ Toys, Berries, Tea, Rain at night to help him sleep, When people treat him gently/cautiously, No sudden movements, Animals (horses especially).
Dislikes:
♠ Sudden movements, Being roughly handled, Loud noises, Large fires, Crowds, People who mishandle toys.
Personality:
Ashen is pessimistic and mistrusting. He prefers to keep his conversations brief and if he has any reason to believe that a person is trouble, he'll walk away from them.  He can be rude at times and is predominantly selfish, looking out for himself first and foremost, so he'll probably never dive head into battle to help anyone, especially if they are a stranger.
Around people he likes, however, Ashen is a little different. He becomes a bit more shy and timid, but not in a way that would make you feel like you're unwanted in his presence. Ashen is always looking for reasons to mistrust and cut ties with people, for fear of being hurt, but when he finds none, he starts opening up little by little, eventually even breaking a smile. Slowly, patterns of clingy behaviour start to emerge and he becomes attached to the person, but, again, at the first signs of suspicious behaviour, Ashen will drop his friends like a hot potato and they'll be back at square one until the misunderstanding is resolved. Truly earning Ashen's trust is a constant uphill battle and even when you're at the top, the ground will crumble under your feet if you make the wrong move.
Deep deep deep down inside, however, Ashen is just a sad, hurt person that desperately wishes for the days of joy from his past to come back. He wants to once again feel loved and needed, but his wounds run deep and sadly, he's the one that's not letting them heal.
Background:

Ashen started out as a toy; a brown, velveteen rabbit stuffed with sawdust and ears lined with pink sateen. He was gifted to a young boy on Christmas, but was soon forgotten as he got lost among all the other toys the boy received. For a long while the toy stayed in the cupboard, with only the old skin horse to keep him company. One fatal day, however, due to the impatience of the boy's nana, the bunny wound up in the boy's bed. Since that day, the rabbit had become the boy's most favourite play mate. The boy took the rabbit everywhere with him and cherished him dearly. The rabbit could not have been happier in those days. He believed that to be loved this much was to be real and, to the boy at least, he truly was.
All good things must come to an end, however, as the boy came down with scarlet fever. The doctor ordered the room to be disinfected and all the toy's of the boy to be burnt immediately.
Everything the boy owned was thrown into a bag and carried to the back of the yard, where the gardener had already started a fire. The bag was thrust into the flames and immediately started to burn. The rabbit screamed for help; a voice, sadly, no one could hear, and when the fire started to finally eat away it's body, the rabbit began to cry out of pain.
As his tear hit the ground, the fairy of the nursery magic appeared, but seeing the horrible sight in front of her, she panicked; in an attempt to save the rabbit, as well as make him truly real, she ended up messing up her spell.
What was left of the toy and the ash the rest of it's body had left behind were pulled together and warped into a human/rabbit hybrid.
Once turned real, his body knew nothing but the agony of being burned alive. His ashen skin still felt like it was aflame and the rabbit boy cried in agony. What was the point of being turned real if you had  to endure this much pain?
Feeling afraid, lost and betrayed, the rabbit boy got up and fled into the woods, hoping the pain would stop, but with each exhaled breath he saw flames escaping him. For two days the boy ran like mad, deeper and deeper into the forest, trying to flee the flames that didn't seem to leave him, until he finally collapsed on the ground, too exhausted to move.
Upon waking, the pain he felt on his skin had subsided, but didn't leave completely. It was bearable, at least, and allowed the boy a few moments to pause.
Slowly, but surely, the boy started learning more about his new form, the need for food, water and rest and as he did so, the pain in his skin seemed to fade away entirely. He soon learned about his ability to breathe fire and he realised that upon the moment of his reshapement, a rogue flame got mixed up along with his ash and was now eternally aflame within him. His eyes took the color of the flames and would light up, along with the tips of his ashen hair, whenever he would breathe fire. This eternal flame inside of him made him resistant to intense heat, as well as intense coldness, but over exposure to either would wear him down eventually, just not nearly as fast as a normal human.
Once he learned more about himself, the boy attempted to join human society, but looking the way he did, he was driven out of towns, branded a monster or a demon.
Feeling rejected once more, the boy fled again, ending up in Pandelion.

Now, having a new home and a proper name he had given himself, Ashen found his calling in making wondrous toys. He often can be found speaking to them like they were old friends of his, but sadly, he can no longer hear them talk back. Still, he warns them of the dangers of becoming real, but always makes sure to tell every child that toys are special and should be cared for no matter what.

Having joined society, however, Ashen learned that although his skin no longer hurts on it's own, or when touching objects, contact with other living beings can still cause him pain. His skin had become highly sensitive in general, but also got influenced by emotion; the touch of someone he liked felt more gentle, but the touch of someone he disliked felt sharp and stung. Because of this, and many other reasons, Ashen prefers to keep a physical distance from others.

- Will get upset with you if you dare to suggest anything bad about toys.

- Bossy/loud people spook him easily.
- He tends to twitch his nose every now and then, kind of like a rabbit.
- Ashen's body is a mix of human and rabbit. This gives him advantages, such as rabbit-good hearing, but also disadvantages, like rabbit-fragile bones.
